I notice after a round that 4-5 hole training sessions are available for that course.
Is there a way to just do training?
And what about the shot type training? I very rarely see them pop up as available.
I read on here that confidence has absolutely no bearing on the game but I find if my confidence is high on a hole/shot type/etc that I get much better results. |

There is a problem with the confidence tool in TW08, you will have to set it to Read only on your player.
When you don t do the fix then your game will crash one day.
After you did new installation of TW08, don t forget to do the confidence folder fix on your player in TW08, it is a very important thing to do.
There is a bug in the TW08 game, all members should do this fix.
When you played some courses you will see the loading times between holes are increasing, the game will become slower and slower.
Do next steps to solve the problem:
1) On desktop you will see the folder My Documents. Open this folder.
( when you are using Vista or Win7 or Win8 or win10: on desktop look for folder: User (or username).....inside you will find: Documents )
2) Inside Documents look for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. Open this folder and then open the folder Career
3) Inside Career open the folder Players. Inside this folder, look for your playersname folder and open it.
4) Open the folder Confidence.
5) Inside you will find these files: Hole Type.tcn and Shot Type.tcn, now delete both files.
6) Important step here! Restart the TW08 game and play 1 hole on any stock course, then close TW08 game.
7) Go back to same Confidence folder and you will see both files are regenerated: but now they are very small in size.
Now right click the Hole Type.tcn file and choose Properties. Check the box next to Read Only and click OK.
Now do the same thing for the Shot Type.tcn file. |

Thanks for the reply.
I knew about that fix but am still wondering if confidence has any actual bearing on the game. I seem to get more hole in ones, chip ins, long putts dropping, etc if my confidence is way high. If I apply that fix my scores will increase across the board so I am thinking that it affects shots.
Load times are almost instant when applying that fix but they aren't too bad for me without it. UNLESS I play an event that uses two course (like the Coast to Coast event). After play in that event, my load times take forever.

This was posted some years ago by jbcalg, it explains:
confidence is just a visual pat on the back, it has absolutely no effect on how good or bad your actual shot is.
All it does is visually tell you: you've made shots like this lots of time, go get em
OR
you suck at this type of shot, good luck LOL
I've had the 2 files read only since day 1 when this fix was published on EA forums
i still get the "practice is available on hole x" message after a game
and i'm still as good or bad as ever. |

I played the game for a few years when it came out and just started playing again recently.
I think I am going to play one full season on intermediate to get my confidence up and then set the two files to read only and just play like that.
As always, appreciative of the replies.

If you play a full season without doing the fix you will be waiting a long time between holes to play by mid-season. I would definitely apply the fix after you create a new player or if it is a player you are fond of delete the Confidence folder files and let the game create new ones, then do the fix. |
