Starting this thread for players to list/suggest some of their favorite fantasy courses that have realistic or semi-realistic layouts and that play well. Would also suggest you mention if the course plays well with very dry conditions as well. Please don't mention the arcadey, outlandish courses that really don't make it feel or look like you're on a golf course. This is primarily for courses that don't really exist, but play, look and feel like a realistic course for the most part.
I'll start off with:
Martha's Plantation (Bullpupp2) --- I haven't played this all the way through as of yet, but this clearly is an example of what I'm talking about. Challenging layout, some very unique holes and seems like it would play well on very dry also. |

Try Birch Creek Golf Club by Stefanie 2k6. She did some fantastic designing, some of which were fantasy courses for TW2008. She has a great eye for imagination and detail. |

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.
No course in the works: retired. |

In some ways these are harder to create, you need to think up the ideas. My own personal goal is to make the course if it was built in "REAL LIFE" would be ranked in the TOP 100 . Granted that is not always the case; it can be a failure. The old Dampa courses in 04, were very creative in thought and I personally cant think up those kind of ideas. Back to the creative aspect, I have a desert course designed and created by another designer on my hard drive which has never been fully completed, but the creative hole designs are something that just makes you go wow, how the hell did the person think this up. On the technical end it needs to be fixed. This last fall I did a PANO, Textures and completed like 9 to 14 holes on it, but it is still in limbo. The point is you have some designers or people who are very creative in thought; to than take those ideas and concepts and create something on a blank page is very difficult.
On a personal note, finally completed my Johnny Walker series, which with all the revisions and mutations that was put in over the last ten years, The goal was to design 36 holes were every hole is a good golf hole, if these courses were built in real life, it would be on someones bucket list to go play.
This were I am at, did my 1st fictional design in a long time last summer, with Royal Orleans this course was a Kawaii / Whistling Straits, Pete Dye influenced PGA Championship type of course. To the avg golfer it would be very difficult to play but to the trained Professional they could shoot numbers, even though the course is long.
Wanted to get back to my roots of designing, what I am working on right now is a fictional US Open course, with hard doglegs, very difficult greens, with hole designed based on green complexes that are designed with angles, false fronts, sides and very stern test to the cyber player. It looks and feels like an old school 100 year old course that has been sitting around for years. I know I do only 07 courses now a days, but this course I may release in both games 07 & 08, it depends on how things turn out. The course is based in Long Island it uses some of the concepts of the great New York courses, aka Shinnecock, Garden City, Maidstone, National, Deepdale, and ect. |

Tried a few holes on Birch Creek. It's nice, but it didn't "wow" me. It really does seem like it could be a realistic course. Played well on very dry. (doesn't necessarily have to be on expert) |

I would start by looking at courses by Chimaera Design, and or, M.G.A. Hover. Probably some of the most challenging and realistic courses out there. There are a few arcade types mixed in these FYI. Some of my favorites are Charlevoix, Les Cabanas de Lac, Stormy Monday and Chateau D'arque. Many of these have exceptionally fast greens but are almost all very playable. My friends and I consistently play on Very Dry with Gusty winds. Changing your weather and or tee position will present you with many new pin positions each time you play. Hope you find a few you enjoy. I love them all. |

Thanks for the suggestions pmsull1; will definitely check those out.
Played Crombie GC recently and (Munro design) and must say it plays well on very dry. Advanced/dry was definitely easier. I think this course was made for very dry.
Stormy Monday SDG had a few holes where some of the difficult pins were almost unplayable, even on normal greens since the texture is actually a step faster (i.e., normal playing like dry). That is, making a good putt where the ball should have landed very close to the hole only resulted in it plummeting down a slope. Possibly better results would be seen set on easy pins. |

As said Munroco has some great ones and they are designed for very dry.
Try my Whiskey creek and many others I did. |

I created the Bolinwood Courses to be realistic. You might give those a shot and see if you like them. Golden is probably my favorite. |

Bullpupp, you're fantasy courses are top notch. Bobby, I see how you have yours organized now and will have to dive back into them.
I was recently introduced to Hunting Leopard's courses and they are quite the challenge as well.
All good stuff. |
