Hi All, So have had problems with this before and issues still remain the same. I notice quite big framerate drops when on certain holes. Even bringing the settings down makes no difference. Some holes totally locked to 60fps but others are at like 45-50 until I get to the fairway and then it is 60 again. It’s really annoying as I actually enjoy playing this game, I find it frustrating that I can play GTA V maxed but not TW08 lol. Will running it on Windows Vista make a difference? Or running on a 32 bit OS? I am currently using Nvidiainspector to cap the framerate to a max of 60 frames per second My current system Windows 10 – Although have a separate partition AND RUNNING TW08 ON WINDOWS 7 – 64BIT AMD FX 9590 – 4.5GHZ 8GB RAM 4GB NVIDIA GTX 960 Thanks Justin My Golf Bag TaylorMade M1 DRIVER 9.5 TaylorMade M1 3 WOOD 15.0 TaylorMade M1 3 HYDRID 19.0 TaylorMade RSI2 – Stiff Shaff Irons TRUE TEMPAR – 130G - Irons 4-SW TaylorMade 60 WEDGE TaylorMade GHOST PUTTER TaylorMade TPX BALLS |

Hello Justin, did you do the Confidence folder fix ?
There is a bug in the TW08 game, all members should do this fix. When you played some courses you will see the loading times between holes are increasing, the game will become slower and slower. Do next steps to solve the problem:
1) On desktop you will see the folder My Documents. Open this folder. ( when you are using Vista or Win7 or Win8: on desktop look for folder: User (or username).....inside you will find: Documents ) 2) Inside Documents look for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. Open this folder and then open the folder Career 3) Inside Career open the folder Players. Inside this folder, look for your playersname folder and open it. 4) Open the folder Confidence. 5) Inside you will find these files: Hole Type.tcn and Shot Type.tcn. delete both files. 6) Important step here! Restart the TW08 game and play 1 hole on any stock course, then close TW08 game. 7) Go back to same Confidence folder and you will see both files are regenerated: but now they are very small in size. Now right click the Hole Type.tcn file and choose Properties. Check the box next to Read Only and click OK. Now do the same thing for the Shot Type.tcn file. |

Take that back, Still suffering from huge frame rate dips.
East lake, sawgrass seem to be steady at 60fpsbut whenever I play at Boston, Doral and other other clubs can go as low as 40fps but as soon as I hit the fairway and play my approach it's back to 60.
What is this?
My pc could not really be much higher spec and I cannot play this. |

Hello, did you download the latest win10 driver for your nvidia card. It looks like there are big framrate drops on Win10 with some nvidia drivers, go to link below: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/860929/pc-games/drastical-fps-drop-after-windows-10-upgrade-and-nvidia-drivers-update-/1/
Some more help on link below: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2749345/windows-low-fps-games.html
Note: Not sure though because you have a separate partition AND RUNNING TW08 ON WINDOWS 7 Is you nvidia card using the same win10 driver when you start the win7 partition, i am not sure about that. |

variable framerates based on what graphics the game needs to render is quite common,a difference of 10fps or so is really negligible - hardly "huge" IMO you''''ll get lowest in rough, heavily trees areas, structures highest on wide open fairways, approaches to green (assuming there aren''''t dense trees etc etc behind or around them)
try lowering graphics options for the 3 tree related settings and grass those are the heaviest draw on system resources frankly - for the amount of time you actually look at all the detail that a very high setting tries to render vs what high or medium produces - is there really much of a difference ?
i''''m there to golf, not sightsee LOL -------- re: gunpower''''s ?? to you by partition, you mean a separate boot for Win7 that you play the game on ? then use Win7 video drivers, not W10
TW08 is a very old game - 8 yrs + now - latest/greatest technology may not mean much if the original software is limited . . . and it is :) |

Frame Rates..huh...i installed FRAPS...i was curious to see what my frame rates are in TW08 and the other games i play. when i played TW08 my frame rates were in the 20's, but game played smooth no hic up's ran great. however when i was on/in one of the games pages, like the page with all the icons...game mode...lan...etc...my frame rates jumped to over 2000fs. other games like Skyrim...Bioshock...had frame rates in the 40's to 60's depending on the location. pretty much what jb said. |

I play on a Windows 7 partition as the game is not supported and doesn't work for me on Windows 10.
I just find it ridiculous that I have to lower settings on a game that has not exactly world class graphics and the best of times.
Gun will try and maybe an older driver , although the gtx 960 is quite a new card I think |

since TW08 was released well before W8 and W10 - there is no reason for the newer OS to "support" the older game software - they did not exist then
you''re thinking about it the wrong way IMO TW08 works well on W7 because the OS is based on Windows NT - the basic software for servers and WXP
normally unless there are issues fixed SPECIFIC to your video card and/or software (including games you play) - latest, greatest drivers do nothing for you
so - earlier driver versions often have better success at handling older software because they are from the same generation
i had a nvidia card that would only run TW08 on a driver version released about the same time - later driver ''upgrades'' simply did not work - and was noted at the time on all the driver sites - that later drivers had issues with a number of games
so - the conventional "wisdom" is try earlier drivers not newer ones |

In theory that's a great idea but the gtx 960 was released last year and therefore does not have drivers available from 2007 |

that wasn''t the point - that was an example of a case where the latest and greatest was completely the wrong driver to try and use
in your case - perhaps the first drivers issued for that card might work better
and other than your reported FPS of 60, falling to 45-50 at times - what exactly is the issue ? relying on FPS numbers means very little as they will fluctuate by system, by course, by settings, etc etc that''s been seen time and time again for years is there lag ? is gameplay effected ? |

As in when I zoom of the tee it shutters and is unpleasant. Also when I first hit the ball and it zooms it stutters.
Do you think I should just buy an old cheap gpu that was recommended for this game? |

I run an older ATI 4870. Frame rates are sometimes too high (200+) and I actually run a limiter so my frames max at 50. This way my swing tempo and putting is same on every course.
I recently tried a GT750ti (because I needed a DX11 card) and it was as you said. Very choppy. I went back to the ATI.

Hey I'm struggling to reinstall a genuine XP Pro operating system but I will do it all the same just because I love this game! I learned a long time ago to save backups because the CGX Master was never covering or watching our backs from 2012 onwards!I was very proud and very involved in creating realistic courses for the PGAX/CGX franchise from 2010 till it's sad demise" I will always have a lot of respect for Jim and the passion he displayed in trying to bring us all together as one great all encompassing tour! It was a great idea and a great venture and I gave it my all as I know many other very noble volunteers did during their time onboard! I miss the old days when Bill,Mike,Munroco,Jamie and I tested each weeks PGAX courses with confident bravado! C: |

Hey BULLPUPP2
Just installed an EVGA/nVidia GTX 750Ti 2gigs GDDR5...In my Win 7 64bit with a XP OS partiton. Have not played either OS''s much, installed few course, created avatar''s. Game playes smooth. I agree with the post about older drivers. Find the release date of vid card check out drivers that are only a couple of month''s newer. Just saying....good rule on thumb. has work for me, 15 years...just saying.
P.S. I still use an XP machine..GeForce 9800 GT..Made for TW 08...lol...lol |
