A few years ago I designed my own course, and when almost finished it noticed that there seemed to be lakes, mirrors, etc all over the course. I think I remember that the fix for this was to clean out the swap files. Well, it has happened again on a new course. Is cleaning out the swap files still the answer (I tried this and it doesn't seem to have an effect) or are there other ways to fix this? Here's a photo of the problem. This is an uphill tee shot, and it looks like the fairway is floating! |

That is a point count problem, you need to optimize detail. No single texture can have over 32k points. Also you should shun away having textures which are circled in red when you check them in the CA.
Note: Sometimes large textures that take up more than 1 hole have over 2000 points and are circled in red, you can get away with this some times.
Note: Base texture you want 22k to 28k, 30k and above can lead to missing textures.....
Knowing how to optimize detail is a major skill that one needs to learn, you drop bunkers you need to optimize before smoothing, u max out the details, you get bad terrain work. But on certain things aka flat tee box you can max it out. Don't know if their are help files for doing this work, but if so you should read it.
Fairways, rough, and base texture are usually set on the half marker or 1 or 2 above. You have different ways of doing this, it not just set the marker at half and your done. |

Thanks. Based on your suggestion, I optimized detail down to <32,000 points, and I'm now in good shape- no floaters! |
