Howdy, my name is Bob and I'm just an old guy getting frustrated with which golf games that I can play. I have Tiger Woods 07 and would gladly buy Tiger Woods 08 today from Amazon or ebay if only I could figure out how to install add on courses to play on my computer. I have been having quite a bad experience with Tiger Woods games. I bought 12 then EA Sports pulled their shenanigans and there is now there is no more support for Tiger Woods games. It doesn't appear (at least to my knowledge) that there are or even if Tiger Woods 12 has the ability to add more courses on than what came with the game. I bought it as a download from EA Sports through Origin. I enjoy links but sometimes I want more activity or entertainment than a straight up sim and that's where I enjoy Tiger Woods.

My computer is not good enough to run any of the newer golf games out there. I only know of 2. Perfect Golf and the Golf Club. I have a PS3 but I am even more lost on that than I am with a computer. I have an i3 running at 2.00 ghz and Windows 8.1. with onboard video (Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series) Tiger Woods 07 runs fine on my computer albeit the resolution is much lower but I cannot figure out how to install additional courses. I donated $25.00 to the site as well.

It doesn't take much to keep me entertained as far as games go but I enjoy my golf games. If you all have a recommendation for me I am happy to listen and even purchase another game but still don't want to shell out the money for a PS4. The only thing that I seem to lack is patience when it comes to reading tons of instructions on how to make things work. Although, when it becomes necessary to do so I will.

Please forgive me for telling my whole computer golf story and asking questions or explaining issues that should probably have gone somewhere else but hopefully some of you can point me to where I can get answers. Or if one of you is willing to give an old man (really I'm not that old unless you consider 63 old) a hand I would appreciate it. But more than anything, Howdy.

Hi Bob, to install courses you first need to install this CLSetup tool/program:

http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=619

Once installed, look thru the TW 07 course list and find a TW 07 course you want to install:

http://www.coursedownloads.com/coursesource/game_main.asp?gameid=9

Download the course file and libraries required for the course. Open the CLSetup tool, and install all libraries and the course file. The CLSetup tool will do all the work and knows where to install the files, all you do is click the relevant button. Feel free to ask if you have more questions. Good luck and welcome.

Thanks, I found this after I posted another thread after I couldn't find this. Man do I get confused sometimes. LOL! I solved the problem for installing the courses. I assume it will be the same for 08. Is 08 much better than 07?

I had to uninstall my Norton that came with my Comcast. If it is reasonably good security system I think I will just use what comes with Windows 8.1.

I'm guessing Tiger Woods 12 does not have the capability of additional courses.

Hello, No there are no additional courses for Tiger Woods 2012.
But there are loads od additional courses for Tiger Woods 2008 ( TW08 ).
When you buy TW08 on ebay or Amazon, be sure to buy the PC version of the game.
In my opinion TW08 was the best version EA Sports ever released.
There is also an automatic installer available for TW08 game: TW Caddie 08
There are 2 versions of the automatic installer TWCaddie 08 ( 32bit and 64 bit )

Once you own TW08 game and you are using Win8, then follow detailed instructions on link below:

Hey Gunpowder61, thanks for the info. I already bought TW08 from Amazon. I am looking forward to playing it and the extra courses. Does that link that you supplied work for Windows 8.1? Does it do anything for wide screen compatibility? Actually I don't mind regular view on TW07, so if it isn't supported then it won't be a big deal.

Hello, yes the link is for win8.0 and win8.1.
You will have to run TW08 in compatibility mode ( xp mode ), and the game should work, it is described in the link.
There is also help in the link for the automatic installer TW Caddie 08 on win8.0 and win8.1
TW08 doesn t support widescreen, there is an old widescreen patch available, but it was for XP and it was a kind of hassle to get it to work.
I am not sure that widescreen patch will work on Win8.1.

Hi Bob - In relation to the widescreen issue. I found that if you adjust the settings in the options menu you will be able to play the game in a widescreen environment, meaning the game will take up the entire screen. Be advised, I think due to some original programming, you will see all the set up screens in 800x640 mode (it won't fill the screen). It will change to full screen when you go into gameplay. To adjust the video resolution you need to click on the options menu (bottom button in TW08), then click on video button (top button in TW08). There you will see the setting for 'Screen Resolution', and on either side you will have arrow buttons that will change the resolution for you. You will have to test the settings by going into a game to see whether or not that setting is good for your PC. If the one that you choose is not the correct setting then try another setting. Sounds way more complicated than it really is.

If you have any questions let me know and I will try to give you an appropriate answer.

Thanks everyone. I received TW08 today, installed it, it shows up full screen, and have even installed a couple of new courses. Do you guys have any recommendations of courses that absolutely need to be installed?

Important when you did a new install of TW08.
You will have to do the confidence folder fix on the player you are using in TW08.
Follow steps below:

When you played some courses you will see the loading times between holes are increasing, the game will become slower and slower.
Do next steps to solve the problem:

1) On desktop you will see the folder My Documents. Open this folder.
( when you are using Vista or Win7: on desktop look for folder: User (or username).....inside you will find My documents )
2) Inside look for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. Open this folder and then open the folder Career
3) Inside Career open the folder Players. Inside this folder, look for your playersname folder and open it.
4) Open the folder Confidence.
5) Inside you will find these files: Hole Type.tcn and Shot Type.tcn. delete both files.
6) Important step here! Restart the TW08 game and play 1 hole on any stock course, then close TW08 game.
7) Go back to same Confidence folder and you will see both files are regenerated: but now they are very small in size. Now right click the Hole Type.tcn file and choose Properties. Check the box next to Read Only and click OK. Now do the same thing for the Shot Type.tcn file.

About the custom courses recommendations:

A good tool is to read the comments on the custom course that you want to download.
You can also sort the courses on real courses or fantasy courses.
As administrator i don t want to favorite certain designers, but we have loads of great designers.
Maybe other members can reply and give you you some names of their favorite designers.

There are lots of designers that are excellent and among them are:

Hyno
Ken McHale
willie
Ronbrug
bullpupp2
rlslay
jjhold
homeboy
hikerbob
Instigatordj001

There are plenty of others as well.Start downloading. If you donated to the site you are entitled to the Myzip feature which is wonderful since you can make a separate file on your PC with all the courses that you have downloaded and installed. Myzip makes that real easy because you can download all the libraries and course files all in one Myzip file. Inside the Downloads folder make a new folder and name it the same as the course that you are DLing and each Myzip goes inside. Then when you are done installing the coarse name a separate folder Installed courses and move that course inside the Installed Courses folder. A lot simpler than it sounds. Need any help, just PM me and I'll help further.
Attached is a picture of what the menu tree could look like.

Thanks Gunpowder61. I applied the fix that you gave instructions for. I completely understand your position on the best courses. I also play Links2003 and there are many fine designers there. My favorite is Mike Jones. I guess they have gone on to create Perfect Golf. My computer is not powerful enough to play it but I was able to get a glimpse of it. It looks good, can't say how it plays, I don't know but if it plays like Links2003 even with extras installed, it still doesn't meet the interaction experience like TW08 so I find myself playing TW08 most of the time. Once in a while if I just want a no nonsense casual round of golf I will hit the Links2003. But I could not agree with you more that TW08 is probably the best one out there. Especially since I am clicker and like to score well more than severity of the challenge. I play to relax.

Thanks for the list of designers. So far, I have stuck to 'real' courses. I also was intending on setting up a folder like that on my desktop. Unfortunately so far I have just overwritten my myzip file. Time for a change.
