At around Midday today (UK Time) I received a phone call allegedly from Microsoft informing me that Windows has reported that I had picked up a Virus on my PC and it was causing my PC to run slower each day. I was requested that I open my PC to allow the person access to the PC where they could check and if necessary remove the Virus for me.
Needless to say I told her that it was not convenient and immediately hung up. On checking the Number that was used I found out that it is a number that is being used for bogus calls like this.
For reference the Number was : 0001 989 961 4816

Hiya Peter, thanks for the post, yes Microsoft will never make a telephone call to get access to someone his computer.
Definitly an attempt to steal private info from your PC system. |

| I've received this same type of call 3 or 4 times, exact same scenario. They keep trying! |

| This has been happening to me for quite a while. I always ask them how they got my name & may I please have a number where I may reach them. Then I tell them I''m old and I don''t own a computer. After that the 4-letter expletives flow freely and they generally hang up. |

These are usually from India or around there, they did this a couple of years back , some how they used clone the number some how to make it look like a UK land line. |

this has happened to me at least 10 times. His statement is that Microsoft is receiving "error" messages from my PC.
I ask for his name and he responds with an INDIAN accent Joe Adams. I laugh and say thats not your name. He says what is my name? I say Omar the tent Maker. Then I hang up. |
