I recently bought a new PC , it has Windows 8.1 installed , a NVIDIA GForce GTX 745 with 4GB dedicated memory plus the system has 12GB RAM . TW08 will not run !!
1st . I ran the compatibility trouble shooter & tried running TW08 in all previous versions including W7 & XP Mode , I restarted my Pc every time a new change was made . When Tw08 is run I get the messages ...
#1-The Game does not support this video card (and may be unstable) #2-Direct X is reporting there is not enough video memory to run this game.
2nd . I tried the fix to set my Max Boot RAM to 4095 in msconfig Boot Options , again I still see the 2 messages above , ( thinking here its not the card type but the amount of dedicated memory )
3rd . As an OS test I set up a partition on the same drive as my W8.1 is installed & installed W7 in that partition , I installed TW08 there & it runs with NO issues at all !! So the issue is with W8.1 ! As the same PC, same RAM , same GPU etc but running Windows 7 will run TW08 ???? I don''''t wish to pay for a new W7 Ultimate Activation Key just to run TW08 on my new Pc .... so now I m stuck with TW08 on a partition running out of time !!
PLS HELP !!! |

As Windows 8 does not support xp mode you can try setting up a virtual machine as long as you have a copy of windows xp see this website http://www.howtogeek.com/171395/how-to-get-windows-xp-mode-on-windows-8/ |

I am not sure this will help you,or maybe you already tried it, but there was something similar with AMD Radeon Cards, JoSummer posted a great fix, see link below:

Note: Some systems are having 2 graphics cards, one is onboard graphics. I had that problem, my game started and selected onboard graphics card instead of the strong nvidia card. So i had to select the nvidia graphics card in the nvidia control panel. ( right click desktop and click: nvidia control panel ) Somewhere in the nvidia control panel i could select the nvidia card to play TW08 instead of the onboard graphics. ( You will only have that option when you have 2 graphics cards ) |

I ended up buying a new SSD ( Hard Drive ) & installing W7 on it , my system now dual boots between W8 & W7. I now have NO issues running TW08 in W7 , same PC same GPU , just that different OS makes all the difference . I have also now installed XP Mode in my W7 OS & am able to run & compile the Architect ! ...... therefor conclusive evidence that the issue IS with Windows 8 ! not , RAM , GPU's or PC setup . Up running playing & designing again :) |
