I have been added to the staff here in the Tutorials department at Course Downloads. We are located in the basement with no means of escape in the case of fire, and no bathrooms other than the use of a floor drain, but we will try to do what we can. Maybe if we prove worthy we will get help getting rid of the rats instead of them taking off with our lunches.
Anyway, if their are requests for design tutorials, please post them here and I will look in on a daily basis to see what can be done.
Just so everyone knows ahead of time I design with the help of Photoshop and 3dsMax 9. I do not know how to use the other photo editing programs or how to export using GMax. Other than that, bring it on and lets see what we can do together.
Humbly looking forward to your replies.
Steve

It looks like maybe the tutorial section is holding its own, so if anyone needs anything, please PM me and I will put the tutorial together and post on the site as well.

Thanks, Bobby!
I have decided to wait until the fate of TWO is decided by the online populace. If the new game is embraced then we will see what happens at that time. If online players decide to stay with the current game, I will put tutorials up for anything I can think of as far as how I design. There are so many different ways to create in the CA that one tutorial is not necessarily better than another, just different.
For example, there are probably 1000 different techniques for making bunkers, almost all of them as good as the other. But certain types of results require differing methods to achieve. That is the type of thing I will try to work out.
So we will see what the future holds.

use any ini file from a course that has one (;try any of bb9s) or just use notepad in this format when done, save as Filetype = All files, name = coursename.ini
[HOLE 1] yardage=345, 419, 453, 463
[HOLE 2] yardage=350, 360, 407, 440
[HOLE 3] yardage=126, 134, 138, 143 |

Thanks for the offer! I am an absolute novice, but I love the challenge of replicating a real course. I'm "attempting" the Sagamore course at Bolton Landing, NY. Very hilly terrain. I did the TA route, but it seemed to create terrain in the extreme, and tracing the holes, fairways, etc. seemed to be a bit unrealistic in appearance, especially with elevations. So I'm trying to do it freehand. I've done about 5 holes so far; repaired and compiled the course, and played it in practice mode. There is so much transparency it looks like golf in a fun house. What can I do to correct this? Does this happen when one uses too many textures from different libraries? I read something on the site about buffer shapes....does that help? Any ideas will be appreciated! |

Usually happens when a texture is more than 65,000 points. |

Looking for a tutorial on buffer shapes to keep point counts down (or anything else that keeps point counts down). Used to have jimbo 64's when I made some courses a few years back. After trying a few other golf pc/sim games including TWO (don't care for video games, me want sim)I am back to 08. I have made about 5 courses where my MB's are up to 16 or greater after 9 holes. I can't remember how i was able to make complete courses at under 6 MB's in the past. |

Thanks for the quick reply gunpower. I have all of goats tutorials (his tutorial's are great though. They have helped me a lot in getting restarted with the CA). Either, I missed it in his tutorials or the exact info I am looking for is not there. I do seem to remember jimbo's tutorial hitting the nail on the head as far as point count info went. If anybody has jimbo's tutorials, can they be posted on this site or can they be emailed to me. |
