For my next effort I would like to prepare a Comprehensive Upload Tutorial.

I have tried to research this here, with mixed results. There seem to be a variety of approaches; I would like to cover them but I dn't know enough.

Please respond with any and all methods, tips, options, software, pitfalls, troutbleshooting. I would like to start with a word on self-testing. Then move through final preparation, removing stickies, and documentation.

What libraries need to be included? All? Stock 08?

TCX or zip?

etc, etc.

From a CS Staff perspective, this is exactly how it needs to be done:

1) Compile your course in the Course Architect program, creating the course TCR file.

2) Take the TCR and put it in the folder along with the splash screen (in TGA format), the logo (in DDS format), the flag (in DDS format), the course text file (in TXT format) and any CLS info that your course uses).

3) Zip up the contents of your folder in ZIP format. DO NOT use RAR format. Also, DO NOT compress your course in TCX format. Any TCX file has to be uncompressed by the staff and may result in having to reupload the course.

4) If you created any new library files (TCL files), zip each one of them up separately.

5) Once the zip files have been created it is time to upload the course and new libraries. Click on the Course Manager (close to the top of the page, beside My Account).

6) Click on the tab for the game you are uploading a course for (ie if you are uploading a TW08 course, click on the TW2k8 tab).

7) If you created any new libraries, click on "Add New Library for Tiger Woods 20XX", where XX is the year for the game you are uploading.
a) If you are an existing architect, in the Course Architect drop down list, select your Architect name. If you are a new architect, type your name in the Create New Architect box. Type in the name of your library as it appears in the game in the Library Name area. Click Next Step.
b) On the next screen, use the Browse button to find the zip file for your first new library. Then click Submit.
c) When the upload is complete, you will get a confirmation that the library was uploaded.
d) Repeat these steps with any additional libraries you created.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT upload libraries that are already on the site!

8) Once any new libraries have been uploaded, in the Course Manager click on "Add New Course for Tiger Woods 20XX", where XX is the year for the game you are uploading.
a) If you are an existing architect, in the Course Architect drop down list, select your Architect name. If you are a new architect, type your name in the Create New Architect box. Type in the name of your course as it appears in the game in the Course Name area (if your course is not named as it appears in the game, it will be changed prior to approving the course by the CS staff). Select whether your course is Real or Fantasy by using the dropdown menu under Type. Select whether you want course comments and/or ratings to appear on your course (the default is Yes for both). Finally, type in Architect Comments for your course. These comments appear on your course page. Typically this will be the same text that is in your TXT file for your course. Click on Next Step when done.
b) On the next screen, use the Browse button to find the zip file for your course. Then click Submit.
c) When the upload is complete, you will get a confirmation that the course was uploaded. You will then be taken to the Library Selection screen.
d) In the left hand window on this page, select one by one the libraries that you used on the course. This is why it is important to upload any new libraries you created FIRST. When you do, they will appear in this master library list so you can select them. When you are done, click Finished.
e) Your course does not automatically appear on the site. It will be reviewed by the CS staff prior to approval. So do not send any messages to the staff asking why it isn't on the site yet. Courses are typically approved within 24 hours (usually much faster), but may take as long as 48 hours if there are other pressing issues that the staff is attending to.
f) In the meantime, additional elements can be added to your course. Go back to the Course Manager. Select your newly uploaded course from your course list. If you have taken screenshots of your course, you can click on Screenshots and upload them one at a time in GIF or JPG format.
g) You can also upload a Logo file, which will appear on your course page. This is typically either a cropped version of the splash screen or the logo image from your course. The file needs to be in GIF or JPG format.

That is pretty much it in a nutshell on how to properly upload to CS.

As a supplement to Jeff's great instructions - logo needs to be named logo.dds, flag = flag.dds, splash = splash.tga, text file = course.txt This will ensure compatibility with all installation tools in use including the caddy.

JS:
Should the "Upload New Course" link on the left under "Course Downloads" be ignored?

That link will take you directly into the Course Manager to upload the course, so it can be used. However, it is better to go into the Course Manager and use those links for one specific reason. If any new libraries have been created for a course, it is HIGHLY PREFERRED that they be uploaded first. This can only be done by going into the Course Manager and using those links. That way they will appear in the master library list when the person uploads the course and then has to select the required libraries for the course, even if the library has not been approved by the staff yet.

If no new libraries have been created for the course, the link on the left side can be used. Personally, I think it is just better to go into your Course Manager regardless of whether the course requires new libraries or not.
