Heres a list of stuff you will need and want if you are new to course design. This list applies to users of Windows operating systems. Most of these programs can be found on this site. Please reply with additional recommendations. Hope this helps!
PDF Version now in Utilties http://www.coursedownloads.net/extras/details.asp?id=536 COURSE DESIGN SOFTWARE LIST
1) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (;required)- for testing and playing the most current TW release. Price: $20.
2) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 (;required) - required to run Course Architect. Try ebay, Amazon, other internet vendors of older games, flea markets, yard sales, etc.. Price: under $10.
3) Course Architect 06 and manual. (;CA06) (;required)- For course design. Available from coursedownloads.com (;free) http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=66
The CA manual is actually the 05 manual, found here: http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=466
4) Caddie 08 - (;required)- For installation of courses. Available from coursedownloads.com (;free) http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/category.asp?id=1&gameid=11
5) CLSetup06 - (;not required, but strongly recommended) additional program that manages libraries in CA06. Available from coursedownloads.com (;free) http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/category.asp?id=1&gameid=8
6) Bitmap editor (;required) Any paint program capable of handling tga and dds formats used for splash screens, logos and (;custom flags - optional). Pant.Net is great freeware with tutorials and file templates here at coursedownloads.com. http://www.getpaint.net/download.html Adobe Photoshop is commonly used;; tutorials can be found at coursedownloads.com. Yop may be able to find Photoshop free demo software, the full version is not free.
7) Library Creator (;and CA06 manual appendix)(;optional) - allows for creation of custom libraries using your original content as well and some elements included. Available from coursedownloads.com (;free) http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=59
8) GMAX 1.2 3D Drawing creator (;optional) - Lets you create structures from tee markers to massive clubhouses. Available from coursedownloads.com (;free). http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=356
9) Some type of Zip file-compression software (;required) - for packaging all the files needed for test installation.
10) NOTE to VISTA users only: Microsoft Virtual PC(;required for Vista users)- You will need to set up a virtual PC in order to design and compile courses. (;See the tutorial Virtual Machine Tutorial for Vista.) http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=510
Microsoft Virtual PC: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx
11) Tutorials and manuals (;required) - You need to download and study as many tutorials and manuals as you can. Print them, get some binders, get some sticky index tabs and high-lighters. Study like you are in school and your course design is the test.
12) Time. Course design, and especially the learning process, take plenty of time. Be patient, do not expect immediate results.
HARDWARE NOTE: Hardware and OS requirements for Tiger Woods 08 apply to all of the above. Generally custom courses require more system resources (;RAM and video memrory than stock courses. That is, if you can run TW08 you probably have enough or more than enough to run the rest. If you have had trouble with the display of custom courses you have downloaded, you may want to consider a video card upgrade.
(;Sorry if this is redundant. I have not seen or found anything like this if it is here.) |

Good topic to put in the FAQ on the new site. It's simple and not long winded. |

NW looks side to side at others in room, shrugs, shuffles feet, looks puzzled, stares at floor, shrugs again... |

A couple of things to note/add/maybe change:
1: CLSetup06 for those who prefer the easier method off adding libraries to 06 rather than using the included Course Utilities. It is available on the site. 2: LC2002 for creating structure libraries. Works better than the LC2006 as it can be used to create objects without using the shader model which causes shadows on the structures. 3: If you are using Microsoft Virtual Machine inside of Windows Vista you will need a valid copy and license of XP with the CD and CD Key. You WILL need to activate the XP installation. 4: For working with dds images you will also need to aquire the dds plugin appropriate for your imaging software. This can be located usually from the site for your application or from nvidia.com
TW08 can be purchased online from the EA Store for $9.99 US. |

Tour Manager and Design Manager of the CGX Tour, the best place online for PGA Style tournament play on custom courses. Often imitated, never duplicated. |

Hi again, I have now have downloaded the files suggested in your ealier post: TW06 46_clsetup2k6 66_CA2006 CLTool 06 TW06 Course Utilities
I was hoping you could advise me the correct order in which to open these files to get started off on the right foot.
As I have quite a large library file, should I wait for a recommended cloaking file before starting any of the above?
Appreciate this is real basic stuff to you, but expert advice is worth its weight in gold!
Cheers, John. |

"I was hoping you could advise me the correct order in which to open these files to get started off on the right foot."
1. Install TW06, CA06 and CLsetup.
2. Make a folder on your desktop called "TW08_Stock_Libraries, and place copies of TW08 libraries in it. Find them in the TW08 program folder. There is a topic on doing this here somewhere, I could not find it just now.
3. Use CLSetup06 to install the TW08 Stock libraries into the TW06 game(a select few to start is advisable).
4. Read through the CA manual and as many tutorials as you can stand to.
5. Open the CA and start designing.
Godd luck and have fun. |

It is possible. You have to set up a virtual machine, tutorial link below:

Just found this info, and just wanted to thank you for making this for noobs like me. I order 2006 TW, and it should be getting here this week, but I got so much to learn before I ever release a finished course. I should at least learn alot about my PC with doing this...
Thanks again to all those who help people like me...... :)
